Is teeth cleaning painful?

Not at all, most people find it is a painless low-stress procedure. However, some patients who have gum recession or inflammation can experience sensitivity to teeth and gums during that. You can consult with our hygienists to avoid sensitivity and get recommendations for special toothpaste.

How often do I need to clean my teeth professionally?

According to the Canadian Dental Association, you should see a dentist or hygienist to clean and examine your teeth every 3 to 6 months. It is very common to put off your dental check when you feel like you did a good job cleaning your teeth at home. However, plaque takes roughly six months to harden into tartar to the point that it needs to be removed from your mouth. While everyday brushing and flossing eliminate plaque, if you don't brush enough or in some spots, such as the inside of your lower teeth, plaque hardens into tartar. Only a trained hygienist with specialised dental devices can remove tartar. Tartar can start to build up under your gum line after six months, signalling the development of gum disease.
